Unlocking the potential of the human body.

After years as a sedentary and inflexible competitive PC gamer, I shifted my obsessive focus to martial arts, hand-balancing, and flexibility. I have spent the last 7 years researching and studying flexibility, mobility, hand-balancing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, gymnastics strength, dance, and juggling with some of the worlds best in their respective fields. My work has been deeply influenced by the likes of Thomas Kurz, Pavel Tsatsouline, Coach Sommers, Kit Laughlin, Gui & Rafa Mendes, Andre Galvao, Tom Weksler, Yuri Marmerstein, Yuval Ayalon, Andreo Spina, and I am also certified under Steve Atlas after completing his two year mentorship program.

“The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself; to be conquered by yourself is of all things most shameful and vile.”Plato

I try to heavily immerse myself into every discipline that I train in an attempt to unlock the many valuable lessons found only through deep practice and dedication. I obsess over the journey and not the result. Inspired by Zen and Stoic philosophy, I have learned to embrace obstacles, welcome hard work, and to accept certain truths when it comes to physical limitations or injuries.

I don’t believe that much growth can come through short-cuts or any form of instant gratification; we live in a culture that is turning people into slaves for quick hits of “happiness”. Doing things that are conceived as hard and breaking past self-imposed limitations is what I believe makes people strong and healthy. This is why working towards a high level physical pursuit can be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life if you allow it to be.

“What offers immediate pleasure comes to seem like a distraction, an empty entertainment to help pass the time. Real pleasure comes from overcoming challenges, feeling confidence in your abilities, gaining fluency in skills, and experiencing the power this brings.”

It’s important to note that I learned all of this as an adult; not as a child with the guidance of a gymnastics gym, dance school, or a circus coach, but on my own as a previously overweight and uncoordinated adult. Following my realization that I wanted to pursue a life of movement, I temporarily put aside my IT degree and quit my job. I began devoting all of my time to practice and research and continue to do so as I will never stop being a white belt. It’s all about variability and growth.

I’d also like to point out that the challenge and reality of learning all of this as an adult is extremely fresh in my mind. This allows me to relate to my students on a personal level and provide a pragmatic and realistic approach which may not be replicated as well by someone who acquired their foundation as a child.

“You are like a hunter: your knowledge of every detail of the forest and of the ecosystem as a whole will give you many more options for survival and success.” Robert Greene, Mastery
